Myriad CEG, one of the UK’s leading providers of clean energy generation systems, and its fully owned subsidiary companies Rural Energy and Econic, welcome the Renewable Heat Incentive, the government’s framework for generating renewable heat announced today.
Dermot Coady, Sales and Marketing Director at Myriad CEG, said: “The Renewable Heat Incentive is warmly welcomed by Myriad CEG." The RHI will create a strong incentive to reduce the UK’s dependence on fossil fuels by creating a framework that encourages users to install environmentally friendly technology.
“Our low-carbon technology solutions are found across the UK in urban office developments, hotels, industrial parks, schools and colleges, and across rural and agricultural markets. We have invested heavily in our business and are ready to support the UK’s move to a low-carbon economy. The RHI will unlock significant commercial potential in our sector and give an important boost to the economy by the creation of green jobs and fostering the development of new skills. In addition, this initiative realises commercial potential for customers.
“We are pleased that with this decision the Government has substantiated our view that ground source heat pumps represent a more efficient technology compared to air source heat pump solutions.”
Renewable heat avoids emissions associated with the generation of heat energy from fossil fuels. Heat is the biggest use of energy in the UK. Supplied predominantly by fossil gas, it accounts for 47% of the UK’s CO2 emissions. The UK’s renewable heat industry makes up just 1% of the UK’s heat market. Across Europe the UK has the lowest contribution of renewable heat of all EU countries except Malta (on zero). The RHI is one of the mechanisms by which the government aims to increase the generation of clean energy.
Myriad CEG provides a variety of solutions that are potential sources of “sustainable” heat. They include solar thermal panels, which could be fitted to a roof and used to heat water; heat pumps that are capable of drawing warmth from the ground or air outside the building; and biomass boilers that generate heat by burning wood chips and pellets.
The Renewable Heat Incentive will provide a guaranteed Cashback scheme for renewable heat systems, making long-term commercial investments viable. Users signing up to the scheme will receive a guaranteed long-term Cashback income.
