Harris Academy Falconwood

The £25 million new build Harris Academy Falconwood project was constructed by Willmott Dixon. This impressive new construction will provide the students with a pro-active learning environment to encourage study and enhance their knowledge in the use of technology.  A major requirement of the project was to ensure that the building had a reduced impact on the environment and solar PV technology was deemed to be the most effective solution in order to achieve this.

The Requirement

Halsion Ltd, who was subcontracted by Willmott Dixon, invited us to supply for the Solar PV Element of the Harris Academy Falconwood project. The required target was 17,063kgs of CO² saving and to generate 30,040 kWh per annum. The specification had to be in line with drawings provided by Halsion ltd.

The Solution

Through detailed design and consideration Myriad CEG Power installed 204 Sharp 185W panels on a Schuco flat roof ballasted system at 20 degrees pitch. The roof was ideal for PV and the PV panels were placed in three long rows along the south face of the Academy for optimum output, thus enabling the required targets to be exceeded. The PV system was commissioned in August 2011 in plenty of time for Harris Academy Falconwood’s official opening in November 2011.
