Industrial Fuel Feed Systems Overview

Industrial Fuel Feed Systems - Boiler Details
Industrial boilers are designed to run continuously so it is very important to note that the fuel storage solution for these boilers needs to be much larger as the high duty boilers will burn the material at a very fast rate. So, the storage and transportation of sufficient quantities of material to allow the boiler to run without interruption between deliveries needs designing properly.
For example, in 24 hours:
- A 1MW boiler could burn 40m³ of poor quality fuel
- A 5MW boiler could burn 200m³ of poor quality fuel
So, you need a fuel store and fuel transport solution to accommodate quite large volumes of material. The quality of material is also often very poor and this also requires carefuel consideration and design.
Industrial Fuel Feed Systems - Fuel Transport
The transport auger takes the fuel from the fuel store and transfers it into the boiler. The system consists of a transport auger (screw) which is guided in a steel tube. At the end of the screw, the fuel is transferred to the boilers stoker screws which in turn transfer the fuel into the combustion chamber. Located above the transfer unit is an anti-clogging switch, in the event that a clog occurs, the system switches off the drive motor to prevent any damage. The transport screw is driven by means of the angular gear motor, which has a removable cover to enable easy access the the transport screw.
Direct Hydraulic Feeding Unit
The Direct Hydraulic Feeding (DHF) unit is a system especially designed for transferring coarse material into the combustion chamber, usually used in combination with a walking floor system. A level sensor constantly monitors the level of the material within the DHF unit. The hydraulic scraper system pushes the material along using multiple scrapers and through an opening into the combustion unit. The anti-burnback protection comes from a tightly sealed edge in the system, along with an automatic extinguishing system. There is an additional battery back up, hydraulic unit which closes the system in case of power loss.
Chain Conveyor & Hydraulic Stoker Unit
The chain conveyor, like the transport auger, is the part of the system that transfers the fuel from the fuel delivery system (e.g. Toploader) and transports it towards the boiler. The fuel is transported along the steel channel by the drive plates, which are attached to the two conveyor chains encased in the steel channel. The chain conveyor can carry very coarse fuel both horizontally and vertically. The Hydraulic Stoker Unit is used to directly transfer fuel into the combustion chamber. The fuel is dropped from the top of the unit by the chain conveyor and pushed into the combustion chamber at set times.
The walking floor fuel delivery system is an extremely robust system, composed of a welded steel grid and a hydraulically operated ram. The walking floor works by pushing the fuel along the fuel store floor and transfers the fuel into a subsequent transport system to the boiler (e.g. the chain conveyor system mentioned above) The walking floor system can manage fuels of sizes G150 and bigger making it a very versatile system.
Sweep Arm Agitator
The sweep arm agitator, similar to the spring arm agitator is a load dependant helical cutter. The sweep arm is independantly powered from the auger and works based on the amount of fuel within the fuel store. The system is deisgned to take fuel heights of up to 6.5m depending on the design, diameter and the bulk density of the fuel.
